Another week ends and the promise of another rolls around; that’s my definition of the weekend. It’s that time when I think about all the things I needed to get done but didn’t, all that I was able to accomplish from my long list of to-dos, and just trying to get grounded to seriously STOP procrastinating about that box of stuff I’ve been avoiding opening up! Don’t act like you don’t have one too! We’ve all got those “issues” and or “situations” we’ve put off dealing with out of fear, complacency, or just plain laziness.
Well, today is the day I meditate, deliberate, and activate some REAL CHANGE in dealing with my “black box”! I don’t know what’s holding YOU back from moving forward, BUT by the time THIS WEEKEND is done I’ve vowed to myself that come Monday, I WILL have a plan that I’ve put in motion and I WON’T STOP until I’m D. O. N. E. Getting fit and healthy IS MY VEHICLE for activating change in my life-21dayfix, Hammer & Chisel, it doesn’t matter what workout regime YOU choose to make that physical move; JUST MOOOVE!!!
Happy World Health Day! OK now that I got that out of the way I can get back on my soap box and rant about the evils of the fast food industry, big Agra-business, and our legislators who have sold themselves to the highest bidder. I’m tired of ranting and raving NOT because the problem has gone away or even because I think things are getting better. The problem IS things are MUCH worse than I thought and in the words of Bernie Sanders “We need a political” (and social ) revolution !
In this case, the revolution is one where WE the people wake up and realize that we are allowing ourselves and our planet to be poisoned by processed foods and an overuse of petrochemicals in our food cultivation practices. Our complacency about our physical and environmental health has helped us lose sight of the importance of knowing where our food comes from and HOW it ends up on our dinner tables.
Is it more complicated? Yes! But we have start somewhere, and that place begins with us educating ourselves about where our food comes from, the benefits of making fruits & veggies the center of dinner plates, exercise, and the list goes on! THIS WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE!! I’ve had to make ALOT of changes in my lifestyle because of health issues and trust me, while it ain’t always easy IT DEFINITELY beats DEAD anytime!
WE all have skin in the game when it comes to the health and safety of ourselves and our families; including that of our physical environment, and it’s waaay past time WE ALL STOPPED sitting on our collective arses and DID SOMETHING about it! Complaining about it won’t fix it, and neither will making the usual excuses (too expensive to shift from our current modes of food production, there’s no “real” difference between conventionally grown foods and organic, etc).
The truth is people are literally dying from poor health due in large part to a lack of access to healthy quality foods, clean water, and toxic environments. This is what corporate greed, a lack of regard for the natural environment, and toxic methods of food production have led us.
According to the World Health Organization, the number of people with diabetes has quadrupled since the 90’s! Seriously?! If that’s NOT a world in crisis I don’t know what is, but one thing is for sure. If you don’t take the initiative to change YOUR life and YOUR health, it more likely than not that YOU too will join those statistics.
The bottom line is don’t gamble with your health because it really is a matter of life or death and continuing down the road of poor health choices is a real gamble so stop hoping and start doing and “may the odds forever be in your favor”
P.s…Here’s a healthy plate recommendation for you! You’re welcome 🙂
I was just watching the news (hmm mainstream media actually had some intelligent info for a change, ha ha ha ) and the talk was about PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome ; primarily how it affects fertility and the big shocker (to me, I did not know this) it’s connection to diabetes. Wow, did YOU know it’s also both a risk factor AND cause of diabetes?! Shut the front door!
Seriously, the is huge for me because if have people close to me who are dealing or have dealt with fertility issues (some a happy ending, while others not so much ). Although I thought it was informative it was also a downer and drove home the fact that OUR HEALTH CARE system REALLY needs to be UNIVERSAL and not optional! The costs of IVF, and some of the other tests alone, can easily sink you debt to the point of bankruptcy! This is freaking crazy in a day and age when SOO many other countries in the world are SMART (and have far fewer politicians who’ve been bought and paid for by the pharmaceutical and insurance industries *cough*) enough to get a clue!
Anyway! The point is, if you’ve got this condition, it’s best to either freeze your eggs (even if you don’t have PCOS this is a good idea because your fertility numbers decrease outside of your 20’s), check your AMH levels (simple hormone check that’s a good fertility indicator), etc.
Yeah, yeah I get it! No pressure right?! Riiight! Seriously, no wonder women are nutty when it comes to this topic! We’ve got a health system working against us (for the average middle class family, this is a lot of debt) and on the other, seemingly biology is not on our side either 😦
Time to work up a sweat, get that heart muscle pumping…Uh mm not feeling it? Well that’s what today is all about because when you’re feeling a bit run down but you KNOW you’ve gotta stay on track, you keep digging down until you find that little bit of something-MOTIVATION!
Mine came from my workout challenge buddies plus switching up my routine by doing a 20 min yoga session, ha ha! My point is I DID something to change MY position and MY perspective because darn it! WE all hit those bumps on the road to fitness and empowerment. I guess I could lie and say it’s AALLL sweetness and light *wink* but I wouldn’t be doing you any favors! Suffice it to say, staying on track is NOT a cake walk BUT is it WORTH IT???! YES IT IS!!!
I killed my 20 min yoga session and I got infused with my super shakeology
NOW WE move on…
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has a new Issue Brief on food companies’ use of branded characters to market to kids. Here’s what it’s talking about: These, RWJ says, work better with junk foods than healthy foods, even though some child health advocates have called for their use only for healthy foods. I don’t want […]
I just thought I’d share this awesome post about food (I use this term loosely) companies’ marketing gimmicks for their next generation of junk food junkies! Seriously, sometimes I think the corporate food industry is REALLY screwing with the lives and health of the people I care about!
I feel like we’ve ALL got to get MUCH MORE active when it comes to what we’re allowing our families to eat as well as taking these corporate giants to task for their deceptive marketing (i.e. obscure food labels, deceptive language in ingredient lists, etc) strategies as well as what constitutes “natural” ingredient vs. unnatural; ’cause I can tell YOU there’s a huge difference between their description and MINE (I can also say the food advocates feel the exact same way as i do!)
It’s Monday blah, blah blah! How was your workout over the weekend? Hmmm, do I hear silence? *pin dropping* Yep, fell off the wagon again huh? The truth about this whole fitness and lifestyle change is that NO ONE lives a “perfectly healthy” life!
I have to constantly remind myself to get off the guilt trip, that one french fry won’t turn me into the Pillsbury dough boy (or girl in my case 😉 ), or even negate all the progress I’ve made since changing my lifestyle and becoming a Beach body coach! Duuh! SERIOUSLY?! If that’s all it takes to totally throw you off then, it’s time for a REAL SELF CHECK 😦
O. B. V. I. U. O. S. L. There will be times when you can’t workout the way you want or how you want, BUY you can move your body; burn some calories! Let’s NOT get carried away, seeing results is 80% diet, 10% genetics, and 10% exercise! It’s VERY important that you feed your body the proper nutrients it needs in order to work with that kick-butt exercise routine you’re jamming to. 😉
If you feel like crap it’s going to be hard to stay motivated, enough said! Here are a few helpful goodies to see you through from a cool article at prevention magazine.
Everyone, I’ve some more skincare goodies for you to think about! Incase you’re wondering, all my skincare related post will all have some reference to skin so here is my next one….it all started with my outdoor therapy outside and about, with a “little” side trip to the Oakbrook Center to complete my ME time.Well, I hoped in my ride and decided ; yep time for a drive he hehe! First stop? You guessed it, LUSH for my total body indulgence (and of course I couldn’t leave without demo-ing some items from their faves list, lol) 🙂
I have a small confession to make *cough* ; I went a little cray cray with the bath bombs because they smelt soo yummy plus, my skin felt awesome! OK this is ridiculous, they’ve gotta have a least one thing I totally hate! Naaw, dang it, I haven’t found it yet.
Oh well I guess the search continues…Oh did I mention I totally hated the cupcake fresh face mask? As much as I love chocolate, both the texture and smell soo did NOT work for me. Guess I found something I didn’t care for after all 😦 No point in taking a sample of that stuff home (I got a sample for one of my friends and she, HATED IT!! ).
Moving on, I did love the feel and texture of the Ole Henriksen vitamin C serum. I’ve used it in the past and my girls at Oakbrook Sephora were nice enough to remind me why I love this stuff *giggles* !
I’ve tried a few items from Fresh but their Black Tea Instant Perfecting mask didn’t work for me either. If you’ve got sensitive diva skin like mine, I’d pass on it (it had an unpleasant sting to it; which is ALWAYS a deal breaker for me). I’m still going to try this soy mask (it’s actually for sensitive skin) and see what happens!
Till my next skincare freak adventure, blessings y’all and take care of your skin from the inside out….P.s. for more about my journey to health and as a Beachbody fitness coach join me here…
Ok soo I decided to experiment with dinner yet again! I love seafood; if it lives in the ocean I will literally eat it, lol 🙂 So what, I’ve got a seafood addiction. Sue ME. Anyway, back to my story; I decided on seafood pasta using mostly organic products-the result? Uuhm uhm GOOD!
Not only that, I proved once again that, you don’t have to end up homeless in order to go organic. I’m so tired of the nay sayers talking about how unrealistic it is to eat mostly organic foods! Heck, if we didn’t spend so much money subsidizing big agribusiness and the fast food industry, we’d ALL be able to eat organic (or mostly so) foods 😉
P.s. here’s the end result featuring mostly organic fixin’s
plus my 2 buck chuck vino from my local Trader Joe’s , he he he 😉
I dont know why we do this to ourselves; trying to be someone we’re not, live up to everyone else’s expectations of who we’re “supposed” to be or look like? What’s THAT about? You know, what I’ve found out? It’s really tiring trying to be ALL those things, almost like trying to create multiple versions of yourself, but you know what? Tragically, NONE of them are REALLY YOU 😦 😦
Ooh Wow! I’m way past 30 and I’m still blown away about “JUST” finally beginning to know this, he he he…yes I guess I truly am one of those “late bloomers”! I don’t think I’m the only woman who has gone through life living for other people instead of for H. E. R. S. E. L. F. but live and learn right? 😉
That’s yet ONE more reason I not only made the eye-opening decision to become a fitness coach and to take up blogging about my journey to fitness, health, and empowerment. For me it started with the need to get healthy after some major health issues (losing family members to disease and death didn’t help either 😦 ) and a real desire to take back MY POWER which I had unknowingly giving up to other people!
Damn! What a revelation that was! While it’s still something I struggle with from time to time, helping other women become stronger, healthier and empowered is literally what drives me as a fitness coach. I’m doing it so WHY NOT pay it forward and help some other women do it too!
Just like the song y’all, YOU don’t have to try to BE someone else to make other people feel more comfortable; there’s no freedom or authenticity in that. Just, Do You…
Now it’s time to “WOMAN UP” (as opposed to man up, lol 🙂 ) and move “Forward Unto Dawn”! (haha ha and yes, that was a reference to Halo; having Halo withdrawals…)
P.s. I’m a Sci fi chick and proud of it! BOOM Skakalaka!! 😉
Alright! I’m giving enough warning at the get go that THIS IS ANOTHER RANT! Why? because I’m sick and tired of wam bam weight loss gimmicks that do abso-freaking-lutely NOTHING! They do not shrink your waist (well without compressing major organs, possible internal damage, need I go on?), get rid of fat in one area (a.k.a spot training) while leaving the other unchanged, or help you get skinny in 48HRS! I mean REALLY?!
IF YOU are truly being honest with yourself, you probably know this-like your little gray cells are beeping that bull crap meter LOUDLY! In the words of my mamma, if it sounds like crap, more than likely it IS crap; sorry to burst your bubble (not really though) but the reality of weight loss that is EFFECTIVE, is rooted in a healthy dose of reality as well as being honest with yourself about how you got here in the first place.
I’m no Einstein but EVEN I know that some wonder gadget (I use that phrase loosely) being lauded by some celebrity, etc (I’m always leary of celebs pushing stuff they don’t even use) or anyone else for that for that matter, is NOT the way to sustain a healthy weight, see real and lasting results, and JUST getting and staying fit! No No, NO! Don’t set yourself up for failure
I’ve been there and done that; sooo not doing it again! Committing to a healthy lifestyle is just that, a healthy lifestyle! Shortcuts usually lead to baad things happening and I’d hate to hear any more stories about someone ending up in the hospital because they used some weight loss gimmick and came out on the wrong side of it 😦
Being a fitness coach and working in Healthcare means that I see a lot of UGLY that comes out of these “shortcuts” and I guess that’s why I get soo pissed off when I hear about the “real” end results 😦 😦 I’m not saying every quickie is suspect, buuut be suspicious of all things quickie!
