Monday fitness goals…

Hmm so what’s the plan? Do some HIIT, yoga, hit the hiking trails real hard, head to the gym for some group exercise class (*yawn*), go for a run? Just WHAT? Aright, rant alert here! I’m so tired of the excuses as to why a large number of Americans are so unhealthy, stressed out, keeling over at their desks from being overworked, etc!! YES that’s ALL TRUE! But what’s also true is that we Americans are kings and queens of fear driven bondage-bondage to our employers, our jobs, and just plain old mediocrity! Sorry that smarts but I’M ALSO included in that sad number, so Baam!

We all have our issues, but at some point you have to be WILLING and COMMITTED to breaking the yoke around your neck and just crying out “enough IS enough”! Enough with being overworked and underpaid by employers, enough with being afraid of taking the risk of becoming your own boss, ENOUGH with living an unhealthy lifestyle-JUST ENOUGH! This is where I’M AT on my fitness and lifestyle journey; I’m done with working for someone else and his/her narrow assessment of my skills, gifts and potential and definitely DONE with being overweight and unhealthy! I look back this Monday and all I can say is, WOW! I’m finally doing it; stepping out and taking the risk to becoming my own boss, and literally controlling my own destiny, BOOMSIES!!

I love the NEW ME I’m becoming and I love the fact that there are other positive women out there pushing and supporting me on this journey! It’s HARD to get started but it’s definitely worth it, and here is where I end my little rant for now , ha haha! THIS is why I started this journey AND NOW it’s time to share that opportunity with other people who WANT and are WILLING to do the same for themselves and their families-DO IT because you know YOU ARE WORTH IT! Enough said and onward to the JOURNEY!

A new day, another weekend…

I have to keep reminding myself that although it’s another weekend going by, I still have a chance to close out the week by making sure I accomplish something, scratch some to-dos off the list, make some more changes, blah blah blah! Yes all that is true, but I have to confess that like everything else in life, the actual “DOING” takes action to pull it into and make it a part of my reality.

Being a very visual person, for me, that means coming outside of my head and actually moving my physical self to engage in action as a way of motivating myself to go to the next level. I guess this is why getting my health on track through physical fitness activities, diet, etc is ALSO forcing me to look at the other areas of my life that need work too! What i’m trying to say is this: ย if you’ve let your health languish and fall off of the deep end, there’s also a pretty good chance that the other areas of your life are so hot either; just saying!

Want to lose weight and maintain it? You’ve gotta own it and stick to your fitness and nutritional plans; there’s literally no magic involved; seriously! Waist “cinchers” *cough* trimmers, weight-loss pills, mystery potions, WILL NOT help you; some might actually damage your organs. Come on! I CAN’T be the only one who’s seen the lawsuit class action suits over this danger stuff๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜•

Hmmm, how’s that list coming along?

Well, how is it? You know that long list of to-dos that you were planning to tear through at the speed of light, like X-men’s blowing through the baddies all in a single flurry? Yeah, that one!
The bottom line is, NOTHING will change if I DON’T MOVE! So I decided to get my butt back in gear and REMEMBER why I started on this journey ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘Š Maybe that’s not your story, but I know I’m NOT the only one who has or is struggling with health issues, trying to lose weight or is just straight up trying to make the switch to a healthy lifestyle. image

I’ve found tremendous support by becoming both a beach body coach and partnering with an awesome challenge group filled with people striving for the same thing. It’s HARD I won’t lie, but IT’S worth it, and most importantly, I’M WORTH IT!๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‘Š What about YOU,out there? Are you struggling too? Need some help and motivation? Starting a new week…

So I decided to stop dwelling on the past and things I’ve yet to complete and just knock it out. You know just get things done in spite of my fears and stop spinning my wheels! Everyone has fears, unless you’re just plain ole bat sh*t crazy, or an automaton. Either way, we all have places we’re afraid to go on the inside and we end up handicapping ourselves for no good reason, at least that’s what I found out in my own case๐Ÿ‘Š

So today is yoga stretch and recover day where I relax a little and let my body do it’s thing on the inside! Too much or top many high intensity workouts can lead to damage and or injury, so LISTEN TO your body.๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘‚

Okay, okay!ย  Enough about the skincare recommendations!ย  Here’s the thing, your skincare recommendation is only as good as the “person” who’s giving the review ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‰ My point is, I’m not recommending ANY product that 1. I wouldn’t use myself ( and I’ve got the diva skin to prove it), 2. Can’t back up their claims (i.e. nontoxic,ย  cruelty free, etc) and 3. Community and environmentally friendly!

That’s just my rant I guess, but the bottom line is that you need to investigate or research these products for yourself; realizing that a “recommendation” is just that, a RECOMMENDATION and it’s up to you to fact check this stuff!๐Ÿ˜‰

Not only that, some of the stuff people are “reviewing” is mostly all fluff and no substance and waay over-priced to boot! Granted some of it’s worth it (especially if you have very sensitive skin, etc) but a lot of it just doesn’t past muster๐Ÿ’„๐Ÿ’ฒAlso, just because it cost an arm and a leg or just your first born child *wink* DOESN’T MEAN IT’S ACTUALLY any good or effective so save your money!๐Ÿ’ฒ๐Ÿ’ฒ

Bottom line, if you don’t take care of your body from the inside out (eat healthy and nutrient dense foods, exercise, etc) even the most expensive “elixir” on the planet ain’t gonna change that rocky road skin into a baby’s butt; sorry I know the truth hurts sometimes, but there you have it!๐Ÿ’„๐Ÿ˜•

Fitness Friday…Happy Earth Day!

Well Friday is here again and now what? Do the Same stuff over again or get out and change YOUR life? Hmmm let me think on that one! Well yes to the last and a big fat NO to the first! I’ve got to say I’m tired of the whole do-over phenomenon; I don’t want to perpetuate the negatives in my life and I certainly refuse to do those same things I’ve done in the past that led to setbacks and disappointment.

I don’t know about anyone else but as for me, I’m looking and fighting my way to a better me from the inside out- A total “detox” of the mind, body and spirit! I’ve learned (and ย I’m still LEARNING) that true health and healing that leads to fitness, has to start from within (yeah I know it sounds like a cliche but it’s true) and so yeah, it’s a PROCESS; meaning TIME is involved, HA ha! Anyway, as I think about earth day and what it should mean to us all-protecting our natural resources and heritage, the environment, sustainability, conservation, environmental justice for all, etc, I WE’VE got a LONG way to go in terms of evolving into a species that WE ALL can be proud of.

I personally plan to start with me (“being the change I want to see”) and partnering with other like-minded individuals; after, YOU’VE gotta start somewhere right? I started this journey last summer and I aim to get healthier, stronger (on the inside and out), and flower into the person I’m learning, I was truly meant to be-I’ll be taking my friends with me too!

P.s. .Next stop, my local farmer’s market for some natural (and organic) goodness for tonight’s dinner plate๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿดwp-1461371288908.jpg

FIT Tuesday…

FIT Tuesday…

Another day has come and goneย  but Tuesday is still going strong, ha haha! Yes I worked up a sweat >>hammering and chiseling<< my way to being fit and ooh so much stronger than I was yesterday!ย  I guess you could say I’m just a “bit” EXCITED when I look back over the last six months and say to myself “you’ve come a long way baby”!

Getting fit, healthy AND STAYING that way MUST be maintained;ย  you don’t just work to get there and then expect to magically stay that way! Ha ha, DUH! Good luck with that fantasy! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ๐Ÿ˜‰

What’s your yardstick for measuring healthy? I hope it’s not “skinny” because frankly, there’re A LOT of UNHEALTHY skinny people poping up all over the Internet! A distorted body image is a great way to end up unhealthy and possibly lose your life! Eating healthy, having a great exercise and accountability regime IS THE BEST thing you can do for yourself! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Remember, there’s no shame in admitting you NEED TO change your lifestyle; it doesn’t matter where you start, JUST DO IT ALREADY! !!

So ONCE again I’m reminded why I need to be grateful to be alive AND on the pathway to good health and living life to the fullest! As I’ve mentioned before, I work in healthcare and I’m currently trying to finish my graduate program in this field; that aside, my past has created in me a passion for wellness and that of everyone around me ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t like to dwell on personal loss or tragedies, BUT when it comes to remembering how far I’ve come I can’t brush it aside. Today I met a someone today who made me THANKFUL to God that I’m on track to being the healthiest I’ve ever been AND MY OWN business to boot!! Woot, Woot! Boomsies!! As I think about this woman I met earlier today, I was nearly in tears (she was soo emotional and in tears) over the fact that today, April 17th 2016 marks the last day of chemo for her. Oh my good GOD, HOW do you respond to that? All I could do was say a prayer for her and leave her room before I started to cry my eyes out too because some years ago, my mom lost her battle with cancer and that still tears me up inside when I think about her ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I’m still maddened and passionate about women’s health and access to health in a system where healthcare (the best treatments, trials, etc) are accessible mainly to the wealthy and or privileged! You can argue that we ALL have healthcare here in the U.S. BUT I SAY, THE QUALITY of THAT HEALTHCARE is just as IMPORTANT as the QUALITY ย of said healthcare. I say this because although we had health insurance IT FAILED my mom and ultimately contributed to her loosing the battle with cancer. Until WE become civilized enough to REALIZE that quality healthcare is a RIGHT and NOT A PRIVILEDGE , we ALL will experince unnecessary loss and quality of life.

That’s not to say that we as individuals do not bare responsibility for own health, WE DO, but it also must be equally accessible to ALL who need it! Which brings me back to this woman I met earlier today. Why was she soo emotional and WHY was I almost as emotional as she? It’s because WE BOTH recognized the personal and financial costs associated with battling such a deadly disease, and not only that, to come out relatively unscathed (financially speaking; as in not out on the streets because you lost your life’s savings trying to cover the costs of co-pays and other bills,etc).

THIS IS ONE of the main reasons I decided to change my life, my health, and my professional focus to fitness and mind-body wellness! As an old adage states “Prevention is better than cure” and “medicine after death, is the worst tragedy”. THIS IS WHAT MATTERS TO ME: PEOPLE, THEIR HEALTH, AND QUALITY OF LIFE!!! What a calling and a personal and passionate call to action people; and THIS is where YOU find ME. It’s hard yet rewarding, BUT what an AWESOME way to live life!!

I’m a team Beachbody coach, and this is my story….journeying to fitness, health, and renewed sense of purpose!! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Nature Girl!

Yay for Saturday nature day!! I love the sunshine and all that it signifies-life, renewal, vision and direction. That’s what I think of when I see the sun light streaming in through my windows and for me, that’s hope finding it’s way to me and guiding me on my journey. A little corny but, that’s how I feel about it so there ! *sticking out tongue* ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m thinking farmers markets setting up shop, tulips stretching out their leaves as their petals unfurl, yeah, yeah, that’s right I’m feeling a little poetic so sue me….these are just some of the things that come to my mind when I think of Spring and later, Summer.

I get really energized, especially for my workout mindset, when the sun is shinning and there’s a balmy breeze blowing in through the balcony doors; awesome. RIGHT?! Who can’t visualize the magic of a beautiful day filled with the sights and sounds of nature even as you add your own tone to that sacred melody, just, WOOOW! I’m grateful for fellow fitness sojourners teaming up with me for a brisk hike at the Indiana dunes and forward unto….the next adventure!๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ‘ฃwp-1461008071326.jpg

TGIF!

Hey, hey, hey! It’s Friday and I’m so ready for the weekend. While I’ve yet to complete my to-do list for this week, I can’t allow myself to fall into that vicious cycle of beating myself up and getting discouraged about not getting EVERYTHING done! Wew! So glad I got that one out of the way. At least I can say I’m finally bringing to stick to my list, Ha haha…live and let live I always say. Anyway another week bites the dust and I just want to say I’m grateful for better health, a solid fitness and health plan that is GETTING AWESOME results!!! Woot! Woot!

Why am I so excited? Well ? YOU try going jumping through nearly every pseudo fitness/weight loss plan plus a gym membership (going nowhere I might add) for like 2 YEARS, and see how ya like it! I STILL had the weight and crummy health and I was going nowhere fast. FINALLY, I was SOO done with the fad diets, the dubious weight loss gimmicks and so-called “trainers” at the gym who just bleed dry (of $ money$). I learned that a dubious regime plus a lack of proper support is almost as bad as nothing at all. Also, YOU’VE got to reach the point yourself where you tap out and say “ENOUGH”! If you’re not there yet, keep going where you’re headed because a LACK of commitment EQUALS no follow through and ultimately, NO RESULTS.

I’m not trying to be a downer for anyone who is struggling in this area because I GET IT! I’ve BEEN THERE GOT RID of the T-SHIRT SOO NOT buying another one; you get where I’m going with this so deal with it and be honest with yourself. By the way, I’m a chatty Cathy incase you’re interested in getting on board with me and my motley crew of fitness sorjourners, he hehe! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜‰
