My response to : Brief on use of branded characters to market to kids | Food Politics — Our Green Nation

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has a new Issue Brief on food companies’ use of branded characters to market to kids. Here’s what it’s talking about: These, RWJ says, work better with junk foods than healthy foods, even though some child health advocates have called for their use only for healthy foods. I don’t want […]

I just thought I’d share this awesome post about food (I use this term loosely) companies’ marketing gimmicks for their next generation of junk food junkies! Seriously, sometimes I think the corporate food industry is REALLY screwing with the lives and health of the people I care about!

I feel like we’ve ALL got to get MUCH MORE active when it comes to what we’re allowing our families to eat as well as taking these corporate giants to task for their deceptive marketing (i.e. obscure food labels, deceptive language in ingredient lists, etc) strategies as well as what constitutes “natural” ingredient vs. unnatural; ’cause I can tell YOU there’s a huge difference between their description and MINE (I can also say the food advocates feel the exact same way as i do!)

Trying TOO hard…

Trying TOO hard…

Just Do You!

I dont know why we do this to ourselves; trying to be someone we’re not, live up to everyone else’s expectations of who we’re “supposed” to be or look like? What’s THAT about? You know, what I’ve found out? It’s really tiring trying to be ALL those things, almost like trying to create multiple versions of yourself, but you know what? Tragically, NONE of them are REALLY YOU 😦 😦

Ooh Wow! I’m way past 30 and I’m still blown away about “JUST” finally beginning to know this, he he he…yes I guess I truly am one of those “late bloomers”! I don’t think I’m the only woman who has gone through life living for other people instead of for H. E. R. S. E. L. F. but live and learn right? 😉

That’s yet ONE more reason I not only made the eye-opening decision to become a fitness coach and to take up blogging about my journey to fitness, health, and empowerment. For me it started with the need to get healthy after some major health issues (losing family members to disease and death didn’t help either 😦 ) and a real desire to take back MY POWER which I had unknowingly giving up to other people!

Damn! What a revelation that was! While it’s still something I struggle with from time to time, helping other women become stronger, healthier and empowered is literally what drives me as a fitness coach. I’m doing it so WHY NOT pay it forward and help some other women do it too!

Just like the song y’all, YOU don’t have to try to  BE someone else to make other people feel more comfortable; there’s no freedom or authenticity in that. Just, Do You…

Now it’s time to “WOMAN UP” (as opposed to man up, lol 🙂 ) and move “Forward Unto Dawn”! (haha ha and yes, that was a reference to Halo; having Halo withdrawals…)
P.s. I’m a Sci fi chick and proud of it! BOOM Skakalaka!! 😉

All that skin…my review of some fave products

All that skin…my review of some fave products

In all the years I’ve spent traipsing and exploring the smorgasbord of skin care products and fix it’s, I’ve yet to find ONE single skincare line that does this perfectly across the board. It doesn’t matter if it’s Clarins or Lancome, Biore or Neutrogena, NONE can definitively say, bar none, that THEIR skincare line does it all. Those that do, are just flat-out lying to you; and that’s from someone who has learned from 20 years of deep exploration, that first of all, everyone’s skin is different and has its own kind of funky! So, D.E. A. L  W.I.T. H  IT!

I’m a skincare freak for a reason, nothing special; it was just the only way to survive and navigate the eruptions of puberty and later on, I learned to appreciate the benefits of becoming intimately acquainted with my skin and like any great relationship, we’ve come to a harmonious give and take relationship. Namely, me giving it what it needs to thrive and glow, and it, in turn, gave me the benefit of minimal breakouts, having a glowing complexion and yep, reaping the benefits of STILL getting carded when I’ve got a hankering to hang with my girls at the club! LMAO!

My first fave is my Kiehl’s Precision Lifting & Pore-tightening  Concentrate. My skin loves this stuff and it does show, lol…hmm I wonder if I could slather this stuff all over, ha ha! Anyway, while I don’t really see much done for pore size ( I don’t have issues with pore size) it does improve both the texture and radiance of my skin. One of the things I love about this line is that it does not upset my sensitive diva skin (think Mt.Vesuvius, in my teenage and early adult years, sheesh so glad I made it through!)

Another staple of mine is the rice powder face wash by Tatcha; I literally discovered this gem at my fave Sephora store and it was love at first wash, once  I demoed it in store! Can someone say, baby’s butt soft?! Oh Yeah 🙂

Now for the 3rd piece of the triad! While I love my Kiehl’s moisturizer, I’ve found that different seasons call for different types of moisturizer depending on what your skin’s crying out for at the time. I recently tried LUSH’s “Gorgeous” moisturizer and I’m going Hmmm, good! I haven’t fully committed to it yet (still sampling it out, lol) but just going by the feel and buoyancy of my skin I’m gonna say YEEEES! The only down side to this gem is that it’s a bit on the pricey side at $87.95 (sheesh, but again good stuff doesn’t come cheap either)…stay tuned for more on this adventure!
